Amazon Web Services (AWS) and global technology group e& have unveiled a major nationwide programme, “AI Nation – Afaaq”, aimed at training 30,000 individuals across the UAE in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies. The initiative, announced at GITEX Global in Dubai, forms part of the two companies’ $1 billion strategic alliance established in 2024.
Delivered through the e& Academy, the programme is designed to address the UAE’s AI talent gap and advance the nation’s goal of becoming a global leader in digital innovation. Participants will gain access to AWS-sponsored training and certifications, including 25,000 vouchers for the AWS Certified AI Practitioner credential and 5,000 for the AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer – Associate certification. Learners will also benefit from self-paced content on AWS Skill Builder and live “Cloud Coach” sessions for hands-on exam preparation.
The programme directly supports national objectives such as the UAE Centennial 2071 plan, which focuses on building a knowledge-based economy and future-ready workforce. It also responds to findings from IDC’s 2024 report showing that while 78% of UAE organisations are investing in AI, nearly half still face a shortage of qualified professionals.
