Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication has signed a memorandum of understanding with Huawei Morocco at GITEX Africa 2026 in Marrakech, targeting the development of the country’s digital gaming and creative industries as the sector approaches a projected $297 million in annual revenues by 2027.
The agreement, signed by Minister Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid and Huawei Morocco CEO David Li, outlines technical support for the Morocco Gaming Expo 2026 — scheduled 20–24 May in Rabat — including the equipping of training and workshop spaces for developers. Huawei will also back Moroccan teams participating in the company’s international initiatives, and the ministry will provide targeted support to five selected developers to improve their visibility and integration into global value chains.
According to the State of the African Video Game Industry 2026 report by SpielFabrique, Morocco’s gaming revenues reached $227.3 million in 2024, with growth projected to $297 million by 2027. Public authorities have been investing in structuring the ecosystem through startup incubation, the Rabat Gaming City hub, and partnerships with the Royal Moroccan Federation of Electronic Games.
The Huawei MoU extends an earlier e-sports partnership and frames gaming explicitly as a creative industry with potential for job creation, investment attraction, and advanced digital skills development — positioning it within Morocco’s broader Digital 2030 agenda.
