The Moroccan government has announced a new digital economy strategy, which is set to generate 240 jobs by 2030 and significantly modernize the nation’s digital infrastructure. During the strategy’s launch, the government revealed plans to train 100,000 youth annually in digital economy roles, with an investment of 11 billion dirhams ($1.1 billion) allocated for the 2024 to 2026 period.
Ghita Mezzour, Minister for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, emphasized that the strategy would propel Morocco’s development and streamline civil service by improving public access to services. She projected that the digital economy’s contribution to Morocco’s GDP could reach 100 billion dirhams ($10 billion).
Additionally, the strategy aims to expand high-speed internet access to 5 million households by 2030, up from 1.5 million in 2022, and achieve 70% 5G coverage among households by the end of the decade. Upgrades to telecom infrastructure and cloud services are also key components of the plan, supporting a broader vision to transform Morocco into a digitally advanced economy.
