Sabic and Lenovo have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore cooperation in industrial innovation, advanced technology and knowledge transfer, creating a framework for potential joint initiatives in Saudi Arabia and other markets.
The agreement was signed on September 1 on the sidelines of LEAP 2026 in Riyadh, in the presence of Sabic CEO and Executive Board Member Dr Faisal Alfaqeer.
MoU creates framework for future cooperation
The agreement is exploratory and does not announce a specific deployment, investment programme or technology implementation.
Instead, it establishes a framework through which Sabic and Lenovo will identify potential areas of mutual cooperation by combining their respective industrial and technology capabilities.
The companies said the collaboration will focus on supporting industrial development, technological advancement and knowledge exchange.
Industrial innovation forms core of partnership
Sabic brings expertise in petrochemicals and industrial operations, while Lenovo contributes capabilities across enterprise technology and digital infrastructure.
The proposed collaboration is intended to explore how those strengths could be combined to support advanced industrial development.
No specific technologies, project timelines or implementation locations beyond the broader Saudi and international scope have yet been disclosed.
Partnership aligns with Saudi industrial transformation
The agreement comes as Saudi Arabia continues to invest in advanced manufacturing, digitalisation and technology-led industrial development.
Sabic Executive Vice President for Petrochemicals Abdulrahman Shamsaddin said partnerships between industrial and technology companies could help accelerate capability development and knowledge exchange within the Kingdom.
“The Kingdom is undergoing a significant industrial transformation, and partnerships such as this can play an important role in accelerating the development of advanced capabilities, fostering knowledge exchange, and creating new opportunities for sustainable economic growth,” he said.
Lenovo targets Saudi industrial technology opportunities
For Lenovo, the MoU creates another route into Saudi Arabia’s expanding enterprise and industrial technology market.
Tareq Alangari, Lenovo President for the Middle East, Türkiye and Africa, described Saudi Arabia as one of the world’s most dynamic markets for technology, innovation and advanced industry.
Through the agreement, Lenovo and Sabic plan to assess where their respective expertise could support the Kingdom’s longer-term industrial development ambitions.
