Zain KSA has expanded its cloud and digital infrastructure activities in Saudi Arabia through a proposed data centre partnership with DataVolt and the deployment of a cloud-based communications platform for the National Water Company, targeting growing demand for AI computing capacity and digitally enabled public services.
The Saudi operator has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with DataVolt to explore the development of data centre facilities across the Kingdom.
Separately, Zain KSA has deployed a cloud-native communications solution for the National Water Company (NWC), incorporating secure voice services, real-time analytics, intelligent call routing and AI-powered automated responses.
DataVolt partnership targets scalable data centre capacity
Under the proposed partnership, Zain KSA and DataVolt plan to develop flexible and scalable data centre capacity capable of supporting Zain’s future infrastructure requirements.
Additional capacity would be available to government entities, enterprises, cloud service providers, digital content companies and digital platforms.
The facilities are also intended to provide computing capacity for advanced artificial intelligence workloads.
The companies have not disclosed the planned capacity, locations, investment value or development timetable for the proposed facilities.
As the agreement is currently a non-binding MoU, the data centres should be considered planned rather than committed developments.
Infrastructure designed for AI and high-density computing
Zain KSA said the proposed facilities would be designed around energy efficiency, sustainability, resilience and scalability.
Infrastructure would support high-density computing environments alongside advanced cooling systems and high-capacity connectivity.
Those capabilities are becoming increasingly important as AI workloads require significantly greater computing and cooling capacity than many conventional enterprise applications.
The partnership could also allow Zain KSA to combine its telecommunications infrastructure with data centre and cloud capabilities as demand for locally hosted computing expands.
DataVolt increases Saudi AI infrastructure activity
The agreement adds to DataVolt’s expanding pipeline of data centre projects in Saudi Arabia.
The company has also expanded its partnership with HUMAIN, the Public Investment Fund-backed AI company, to develop 100 MW of a planned 360 MW AI-ready data centre development at Oxagon.
Together, the projects indicate DataVolt is positioning itself as an infrastructure partner for Saudi Arabia’s rapidly expanding cloud and AI computing market.
For Zain KSA, the proposed partnership provides a potential route to securing additional capacity without relying solely on internally developed data centre infrastructure.
Zain deploys cloud communications for National Water Company
Zain KSA has also completed a separate cloud deployment for Saudi Arabia’s National Water Company.
The solution is designed to improve communications between NWC and users of its water tanker service, with a focus on faster response times, privacy, reliability and service quality.
It runs on a cloud-native platform hosted on Zain KSA’s local cloud infrastructure.
The deployment includes secure and scalable voice communications, call masking and encrypted call recording.
AI and analytics support call management
The NWC platform also incorporates real-time analytics dashboards designed to provide greater visibility into communications performance.
Smart call routing is used to manage incoming communications more efficiently, while AI-powered automated responses are intended to streamline call flows and improve handling.
Combining these capabilities with local cloud hosting gives NWC an integrated platform for managing customer communications while maintaining security and operational control.
NWC Vice President of IT and Digital Majid Abdulmohsen Al-Juraib said the service had improved communications between beneficiaries and the utility’s water tanker service.
“The service has enabled faster, more efficient communication between beneficiaries and our water tanker service through an integrated system built to the highest standards of security and reliability,” Al-Juraib said.
Zain moves further into digital infrastructure and enterprise services
The two developments highlight different parts of Zain KSA’s strategy beyond conventional mobile connectivity.
The DataVolt agreement addresses the underlying infrastructure required for cloud and AI workloads, while the NWC deployment demonstrates how Zain can use its local cloud environment to deliver applications for large organisations and public-service providers.
Together, they position the operator across multiple layers of the digital infrastructure stack, from connectivity and computing capacity to cloud platforms and AI-enabled enterprise services.
