Muscat: Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has released its half-yearly report for January to June 2023, revealing substantial growth in the country’s telecommunications sector. The report highlights that 5G fixed broadband subscriptions have reached 25,000, with the total number of 5G stations increasing to 4,566 across the country.
The growth in mobile phone subscriptions has been notable, showing a 4 percent increase in the second quarter of 2023 compared to the fourth quarter of 2022. This growth resulted in a penetration rate of 142 percent of the total population, translating to more than seven million subscriptions. Additionally, mobile broadband subscriptions witnessed a 5 percent growth during the same period, achieving a penetration rate of 120 percent of the total population, with over 5.9 million subscriptions.
The report also indicates that 36 percent of the total 540,284 fixed broadband subscriptions are 5G fixed subscriptions. Notably, 52 percent of these fixed broadband subscriptions are concentrated in the Governorate of Muscat, while the Governorates of Musandam, Al Wusta, and South al Sharqiyah have the lowest number of active subscriptions.
This significant growth in telecommunications infrastructure and services underscores Oman’s ongoing efforts to expand and modernize its digital connectivity and aligns with broader regional trends towards increased adoption of 5G technology.
