STC Group and Ooredoo Oman have signed a Head of Terms agreement to launch the SONIC Project, aimed at establishing an international terrestrial fiber optic network corridor between Saudi Arabia and Oman. The project, set for completion by 2026, will support hyperscalers and telecom operators with agile, seamless digital infrastructure across the region.
The SONIC project will create an integrated terrestrial fiber network with two redundant paths, connecting submarine cable landing stations and data centers in Saudi Arabia and Oman. This collaboration will enhance connectivity by leveraging the strategic geographic positioning of both countries, offering highly reliable network services.
The first phase of the project is expected to be completed within 12 months, with the full project expected to conclude within 24 months. It will complement ongoing subsea projects and improve international subsea routes between Asia and Europe. Both operators will provide transitional solutions during the implementation phases.
This strategic partnership underscores the commitment of both companies to driving digital transformation in Saudi Arabia and Oman, supporting economic growth and fostering innovation. The SONIC project aims to elevate regional and international connectivity through secure, high-capacity, and efficient networks, positioning the two countries as key players in the global digital ecosystem.
