MCIT and Orange Egypt partner to expand distance diagnosis services in remote areas

CAIRO: Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and Orange Egypt have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand the use of distance diagnosis technologies and improve access to integrated, high-quality healthcare services in villages, border regions, and remote areas.

According to the Egyptian cabinet, the initiative will be implemented in cooperation with civil society organisations and specialised medical convoys across all governorates. The partnership aims to promote equitable and sustainable access to advanced digital healthcare by developing scalable, digitally automated distance diagnosis solutions for underserved communities.

The project will deploy mobile distance diagnosis medical units as part of civil society-led medical convoys, enabling medical examinations, preliminary tests, treatment, referrals, and health awareness services for priority groups. It will also strengthen medical consultations and knowledge exchange, connecting specialised healthcare facilities to ensure faster referrals, accurate diagnoses, and reduced pressure on hospitals.

The two-year MoU assigns MCIT responsibility for preparing digital medical units, overseeing technical and operational implementation, and supporting capacity building and awareness efforts. Orange Egypt, through its corporate social responsibility programmes, will fully fund the initiative, including equipping the units and delivering training and awareness programmes under strict transparency and governance standards.

The project builds on the Presidential Distance Diagnosis Initiative, which has served around 300,000 citizens over the past three years, and aligns with Egypt’s Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development strategy, implemented in cooperation with the UN Development Programme. Officials said the partnership supports health equity, reduces travel and cost burdens for citizens, and contributes to building a comprehensive and sustainable digital health ecosystem in line with Egypt’s national digital strategy.
