FOO and BENEFIT mark 100 platform upgrades for Bahrain’s BenefitPay wallet

UAE-based FinTech solutions provider FOO and Bahrain’s electronic financial transactions company BENEFIT have completed 100 Change Requests for BenefitPay, marking a major development milestone in the evolution of Bahrain’s national digital wallet.

Each Change Request has introduced a new feature, integration, security enhancement or user experience improvement to the platform, which has become one of Bahrain’s most widely used digital financial services.

The latest upgrade gives BenefitPay users direct access to their personal QR code from the app’s homepage, making transfers and payments faster and easier to initiate.

BenefitPay continues to expand functionality

The 100 Change Requests reflect the continuous development of BenefitPay rather than a single platform overhaul.

Previous upgrades delivered through the FOO-BENEFIT partnership have included a redesigned user interface and user experience, additional backend integrations and stronger security controls.

FOO implemented the Digital Wallet and Digital Merchant Platform that underpin BenefitPay, providing the core technology environment through which the service has expanded over time.

More than 20 financial services are now integrated into the wallet, including international money transfers, bill splitting, payments to multiple recipients, electronic cheque transactions and money requests.

The platform also supports QR payments, Tap and Go, online checkout and in-app payment functionality.

BenefitPay reaches more than 1.3 million active subscribers

BenefitPay has grown into Bahrain’s most widely adopted FinTech platform, with more than 1.3 million active subscribers.

The app records around 1.7 million visits each day and has processed more than 1.9 billion transactions across services including Fawri, Fawri+ and Fawateer.

The scale of usage means even relatively small user experience or technical changes can affect a large share of the country’s digital payments activity.

That makes continuous platform development particularly important as users increasingly rely on digital wallets for everyday transfers, payments and other financial services.

AI-powered identity verification strengthens onboarding and security

FOO has also integrated an AI-powered identity verification solution into BenefitPay.

The technology allows BENEFIT to authenticate identity documents and automatically conduct face matching, supporting both fraud prevention and regulatory compliance.

This gives the wallet a more automated digital onboarding and verification layer while reducing dependence on manual identity checks.

BenefitPay also uses tokenisation to protect credit, debit and prepaid card credentials used for contactless transactions.

Instead of transmitting or storing sensitive card details directly, tokenisation replaces them with digital tokens, reducing the exposure of payment credentials during transactions.

Partnership underpins continuous FinTech development

FOO operates as a SaaS-based FinTech solutions provider serving banks, FinTech companies and retailers across the MENA region.

Its modular digital microservices platform supports products including remittances, digital wallets, tokenised transactions, automated micro-lending and buy now, pay later services.

BENEFIT deputy chief executive of business development and services Yousif Al Nefaie said reaching 100 Change Requests reflected the alignment and collaboration between the two organisations.

He said the partnership had created the capabilities needed to continue developing BenefitPay and deliver secure digital services that respond to changing customer requirements.

FOO co-founder and chief executive officer Ghady Rayess said the milestone demonstrated the value of sustained collaboration and continuous innovation in expanding digital financial services.

Why this matters

The significance of the 100 Change Requests lies in the way BenefitPay is being developed as a continuously evolving national payments platform rather than a static digital wallet.

With more than 1.3 million active subscribers and billions of transactions already processed, the platform has become an important part of Bahrain’s digital financial infrastructure.

Continuous upgrades to user experience, identity verification, security and payment functionality help maintain reliability and relevance as digital payment behaviour changes.

The partnership also shows how national financial platforms can evolve through modular development, with new services and security capabilities added over time without requiring a complete rebuild.

Editor’s note

BenefitPay’s scale makes this milestone more important than a simple software development count.

A hundred Change Requests suggests an operating model built around continuous iteration, where the wallet is regularly updated in response to user behaviour, regulatory needs and new financial services.

For Bahrain, that matters because digital payments adoption increasingly depends on trust, convenience and feature depth. The combination of AI-based identity verification, tokenisation and expanded payment services indicates that BenefitPay is moving further beyond basic transfers toward a broader digital financial ecosystem.
