On February 20th, Sri Lankan tech startups and scale-ups gathered at the Export Development Board (EDB) for an enlightening awareness session aimed at empowering local tech businesses with essential strategies for entering the European market. The session specifically focused on leveraging Berlin’s vibrant startup ecosystem.
The event kicked off with a warm welcome from Mangala Wijesinghe, Chairman and CEO of the EDB, who highlighted the importance of global market expansion for Sri Lanka’s ICT sector. He encouraged startups to embrace international opportunities and broaden their reach.
The keynote address was delivered by Marten Rauschenberg, CEO of the AsiaBerlin Forum, who shared valuable insights on how Sri Lankan tech startups can navigate the European market. His focus was on the abundant opportunities within Berlin’s thriving startup ecosystem, providing a roadmap for success in the region.
Manori Unambuwe, former Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Germany and Ambassador for the AsiaBerlin Forum, also contributed to the event. During a panel discussion, she shared her expertise on strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Germany and offered strategic advice on how Sri Lankan startups can leverage the AsiaBerlin platform to create valuable connections.
The main goal of the session was to raise awareness among Sri Lankan ICT SMEs and startups about entry opportunities into the European market, while fostering networking with influential figures from the AsiaBerlin Forum. AsiaBerlin, supported by the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy, and Public Enterprises, serves as a key platform for promoting collaboration and innovation between startups, investors, and policymakers across Asia and Berlin.
The event concluded with a networking session, giving participants the tools and connections needed to accelerate their international expansion efforts. As Sri Lanka’s tech startups continue to grow, events like this play an essential role in promoting global collaboration and opening doors to new market opportunities.
