Morocco Showcases Ambitious Digital Transformation Strategy to U.S. Technology Leaders

Morocco’s digital transformation vision took center stage this week at George Washington University, where Ambassador Youssef Amrani presented the kingdom’s comprehensive digital strategy to American policymakers, academics, and technology industry leaders.

Speaking at a high-level forum organized by the Center for Cyberdiplomacy and Leadership, Amrani outlined Morocco’s commitment to leveraging technology as a driver of socioeconomic development, innovation, and youth empowerment. The event, titled “Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Government: Morocco’s Vision for Youth and the Future,” drew participation from U.S. Congress members, senior government officials, and tech experts.

Ambassador Amrani emphasized that Morocco’s digital transformation is a “sovereign and structural choice serving citizens,” inspired by King Mohammed VI’s vision to modernize governance and public services through data-driven decision-making and digital innovation.

Under the Morocco Digital 2030 strategy, the kingdom aims to boost the digital economy’s contribution to GDP to 6% and create 240,000 skilled jobs by the end of the decade, particularly for youth and women. The plan focuses on upgrading the national economy, increasing public sector efficiency, and nurturing new employment opportunities in emerging digital industries.

A central pillar of the initiative is human capital development. Morocco intends to train 100,000 young people annually in digital professions and expand digital classrooms nationwide — including rural areas — to reach 30,000 students by 2026. “Our objective is clear: making digital technology a tool for equal opportunity and social cohesion,” Amrani said, stressing that education access is vital for inclusive growth.

Amrani also highlighted the growing U.S.–Morocco digital partnership, founded on mutual trust and shared values. He pointed to increasing interest from American investors and technology firms in Morocco’s cloud computing and data center infrastructure, leveraging the country’s strategic location, political stability, and skilled workforce.

As Morocco positions itself as a bridge between Africa, Europe, and global markets, its digital transformation is becoming a key component of its diplomatic and economic strategy — strengthening the nation’s role as an emerging technology hub on the African continent.
