Batelco (Bahrain Telecommunications Company) has recently introduced Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6), marking a significant technological advancement in Bahrain’s internet infrastructure.
This launch is a strategic response to the growing demand for Internet of Things (IoT) and digital products. IPv4, the predecessor, which originated in the 1980s, has a limitation of approximately 4 billion unique IP addresses. This limitation is increasingly becoming a bottleneck for technological expansion due to the rising number of internet-connected devices worldwide.
The transition to IPv6 addresses this challenge by offering a near-limitless pool of IP addresses. This ensures that each device, whether current or future, can be uniquely identified, facilitating the growth in the number of connected devices. The deployment of IPv6 in Bahrain is a major step by Batelco and positions the Kingdom among the leaders in technology adoption within the region.
Furthermore, this deployment is expected to enhance efficiency, security, and network performance over IPv4. Batelco’s initiative aligns with Bahrain’s digital transformation goals, aiming to bolster the Kingdom’s status as a leading digital hub in the region. The implementation of IPv6 is a pivotal milestone for Batelco and the Kingdom, signifying a commitment to embracing advanced digital technologies.
