Saudi Arabia has introduced the Almarai Prize for Scientific Creativity Strategy to foster innovation in food security both locally and globally. The prize was launched by Dr. Munir M. Eldesouki, President of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and Chairman of the Almarai Prize for Scientific Creativity, along with Prince Naif bin Sultan bin Muhammad bin Saud Al-Kabeer, Chairman of the Board for Almarai Company and Vice Chairman of the Board for the Prize.

New Strategy and Rebranding

Almarai and KACST have collaborated to develop a strategy that aims to enhance food security innovation in arid regions, addressing water shortages and global food security challenges. This includes rebranding the local prize as the “Almarai Prize for Scientific Innovation” and establishing an international branch in collaboration with the Research, Development, and Innovation Authority.

Royal Approval and Accreditation

First launched in 2001, the Almarai Prize for Scientific Creativity is the first annual prize in Saudi Arabia to receive Royal approval and accreditation from the National Centre for Academic Accreditation and Evaluation. Dr. Eldesouki announced that the new strategy aims to improve Saudi Arabia’s standing in international food security indicators and raise awareness of global research and innovations, aligning with the kingdom’s research, development, and innovation priorities.

Supporting Innovators and Raising Awareness

Prince Naif stated that the Almarai Prize for Scientific Creativity is undergoing significant development, with this year’s new version increasing support for innovators, researchers, and scientists. The prize also aims to raise awareness among future generations about the importance of research and innovation in food security, motivating them to pursue careers in these fields.

Vision and Global Impact

Prince Naif emphasized that the prize showcases pioneering work in food systems in arid regions, highlighting the potential for partners to benefit from these innovations. Almarai’s sponsorship of the prize reflects its vision of prioritizing science and innovation in its investments to develop the food industry and promote sustainable food security on local, regional, and global levels.
