The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) issued a new decision on Sunday, No. 1152/2/19/2024-12, amending the regulations and approval list for telecommunications devices. This decision aims to empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by providing a framework for obtaining permits to import telecommunications devices for commercial purposes, type approval certificates, and customs release permissions from the TRA.

Key amendments include:

  • Validity of Type Approval Certificates: Set at four years, renewable for similar periods.
  • Special Procedures for SMEs: SMEs with an Entrepreneurship Card will benefit from streamlined procedures and a comprehensive review of fees, which may be modified, reduced, or exempted.

The TRA’s objective with these amendments is to create a flexible regulatory environment that aligns with market developments, simplifies procedures, and enhances their effectiveness. The regulation targets importers, manufacturers, users, and others involved with telecommunications devices, both locally and internationally.
