Indonesia is gearing up for the launch of SpaceX’s Starlink satellite broadband service in the coming two weeks, as confirmed by Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment. Starlink has successfully obtained the required licenses and agreements to operate its satellite internet services across Indonesia, with an official announcement expected soon in Bali.
This advancement was highlighted during the “Jakarta Future Forum: Blue Horizons, Green Growth” in Jakarta. Starlink’s recent Memorandum of Understanding with the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association aims to extend internet access to the nation’s most remote areas. Additionally, SpaceX has applied for necessary permits to facilitate internet connectivity in Indonesia’s future capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara, with trials starting mid-May.
This initiative is set to transform internet access across Indonesia, enhancing connectivity especially in regions where traditional broadband is infeasible, thereby fostering greater digital inclusion throughout the Indonesian archipelago.
